GART is pleased to present Martina Gagliardi, an emerging artist selected by our research programme The GART Vanguard 2023. “THREADS AND WEAVES”, two key words that identify the pictorial style developed by the artist during her three years of research, lived between Turin, the Porta di Palazzo Market and her atelier in the Langhe.
Martina Gagliardi’s research began with the observation of raw materials and the analysis of their deterioration process. Her move to the city of Turin was instrumental in living and immersing herself in the largest fruit and vegetable market in Europe, that of Porta Palazzo.
On view, a selection of works made with oil pastels on tnt – the artist’s iconic material, commonly used to protect vegetables and plants from the cold or atmospheric agents – are suspended in an aerial installation that punctuates the space, leading the visitor to immerse himself in a crossroads of frames and perspectives, colours and transparencies. In the second room of the GART, a project of 8 works made of tnt, placed under display cases and specially elaborated, crystallise details, instants and meanings captured and elaborated from a lived experience.
The exhibition as a whole expresses Martina Gagliardi’s desire to regain through art that sense of total experience and shared human perception.
