The invisible, silent and seemingly motionless nature of plants scientifically reveals to us a universe of fantastic function and harmony.

all exhibitions

As Stefano Mancuso argues in his publication ‘The Intelligence of Plants’, plants have developed a distributed network intelligence, without a command centre, to interact symbiotically with their environment. And this they have been doing for a few billion years.
Deeply attracted to the scientific study of nature, Cristina Saimandi conducts bio(po)ethical artistic research, inspired by the processes of Mother Earth and directed towards an analysis of human behaviour.
The sculptural works, which generate the installation “Respiri” (Breaths), arise as clayey, organic and phytomorphic entities, interconnected by a huma-natural and collective sound. Similar to evocative and ritual chants, the sound vibrations are composed of breaths, air pockets and imperceptible voice emissions. The installation, composed of five or more ceramics joined in dialogue through this primordial intonation, leads towards a spiritual experience, a reflection on the non-separation of matter and spirit, but on the harmonic conception between them, as indissoluble parts for the unity of existence. By allowing oneself to be transported by this energetic process coming from the ceramic wombs, on which signs, words and material thicknesses are amalgamated, one can embark on a journey of the soul, a spiritual path through and towards nature. The material-phonic structure of Cristina Saimandi’s installation is a formula dedicated to the rebalancing of the intelligence of nature and human beings and their coexistence on planet Earth.

It is through a visual and mimetic relationship that Daniela Madeleine Guggisberg’s installation ‘Canes in the Wind’ enters into harmony with the natural world. Composed of a multitude of elongated sculptural figures that evoke the plant form, the entire installation is inevitably connected to the earth, the element from which it seems to be born and draws nourishment, as well as inspiration. Made of pink marble from Portugal with steel rods, the installation created by D. M. Guggisberg respects and enhances the properties of the marble material through polishing, extracting its essence through the synthesis of form.
